I appreciate the responses to my recent post on how a Near Drowning Experience cemented my decision to block of the next seven months to take a “sabbatical lite.” Thank you!
Quite a few people made comments to the effect that “I wish I could take a sabbatical lite.” If that’s you, what’s stopping you? What can you do to make it happen?
How can you convince your boss (or if you are CEO, your board) that your sabbatical lite would be benefit the organization?
Can you go to 1/2 or 4/5 time and create a mini sabbatical lite each week?
How can you restructure your current days off so you can make part of each week feel like a mini sabbatical lite? If you currently have a fulltime job you still about 118ish days a year that are your own.
What can you give up so that you can make a part of each day feel like a micro sabbatical lite? Social media, television, and playing video games all come to mind.
If you really hate your job, or if you find yourself just going through the motions while wishing you were somewhere else doing something else, has the time come for you to turn in your two weeks notice and take a sabbatical lite before you start searching for something new? NOTE: the more frugal you are with your finances, the longer you will be able to stretch out your sabbatical lite and extend your job search.
In my last post I mentioned that later this summer my Spark Plug newsletter will transition to Proceed Until Apprehended!. If you are longing for a sabbatical lite you might be surprised at how far and how fast you can proceed before you are apprehended – so long as you don’t apprehend yourself first.
