There is Always Something You Can Do

“It is possible to be without resources.  It is inexcusable to be without resourcefulness.  That is about character, not cash. There is ALWAYS something you can do. There is always SOMETHING you can do. There is always something YOU can do. Pick up the phone and make calls. Get on your horse and get out in the field. Knock on doors. Proposition a host. Hustle.”

Dan Kennedy: The Ultimate Marketing Plan

This is one of my favorite quotes about resilience. You can download a 3-page PDF with all 15 of them at this link.I love the way that Dan has taken one sentence and given it three different spins. And serendipitously, those three different spins reinforce the first three promises of The Self Empowerment Pledge (www.PledgePower.com) – Responsibility, Accountability, Determination – which I think of as the foundation of personal character strength

No matter what challenges you are facing today there is ALWAYS something you can do. Monday’s Promise of The Self Empowerment Pledge on Responsibility says “I will take complete responsibility for my health, my happiness, my success and my life and will not blame others for my problems or predicaments.” When you accept personal responsibility for your life you refuse to fall into the swamp of learned helplessness, to point fingers instead of looking in the mirror, to give up or to not even try.

No matter what challenges you are facing today there is always SOMETHING you can do. Tuesday’s Promise of The Self Empowerment Pledge on Accountability says “I will not allow low self-esteem, self-limiting beliefs or the negativity of others to prevent me from achieving my authentic goals and becoming the person I am meant to be.” When you hold yourself accountable for achieving your goals and dreams and for doing the work required for you to be your best self you will – surprise! – find yourself doing SOMETHING to be that best self and to achieve those goals and dreams.

No matter what challenges you are facing today there is always something YOU can do. Wednesday’s Promise of The Self Empowerment Pledge on Determination says “I will do the things I’m afraid to do but which I know should be done. Sometimes this will mean asking for help to do that which I cannot do by myself.” When you are determined to plow through fear and resistance, as Goethe promised, “then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred.” Your determination will plow through brick walls and overcome obstacles that once might have seemed insurmountable.

Remember: There is ALWAYS SOMETHING YOU can do!
